Funeral mass will be held at St. Philip The Apostle on Saturday, July 2 at 9:00 A.M. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Southwest Memorial Park. Tony Carbonell was born in the Philippines on June 13, 1932 and earned his medical degree from Far Eastern University in 1957. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1962. He received his medical training in Ohio and New Jersey and worked at St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, Weehawken, New Jersey, and Boron, California before eventually moving to Bakersfield in 1975. He was in private practice and has been associated with Valley Medical Group for the last 17 years until his untimely demise on June 23, 2005. He liked to travel, loved the game of golf and enjoyed playing blackjack. Tony is survived by his wife of 41 years, Dr. Emma Carbonell; sons, Tony Jr. and Arthur; sister, Milagros; brother, Claro; daughter-in-law, Clare; grandson, Matthew; and numerous relatives and friends. We would all like to express our gratitude to all the doctors and nursing staff at Mercy and Memorial Hospitals involved in his care, as well as the staff of Valley Medical Group, for all of their kindness, compassion and support.
