Carlson, M.D. Services: Sat., April 2, 10:00 a.m. Funeral service will be held April 2, 2005, at 10:00 a.m., in Delano Mortuary Chapel for Arthur W. Carlson, M.D., 88, who died March 24, 2005, at his home in McFarland. Chaplain Chuck Simonson will officiate. Interment will be in North Kern District Cemetery. Dr. Carlson, known as Doc, was born April 13, 1916, in Portland, Oregon. He started his first job at 6 years old selling papers in San Francisco. Doc moved to McFarland in 1946. He was a doctor for over 56 years in McFarland, and delivered over 3,000 babies. Doc was also the McFarland high School team Doctor for 25 years. He was the 1st mayor of McFarland and served as mayor for a total of 14 years. He started farming in Wasco in 1974. Doc loved antiquing, going to flea markets and talking. Survivors include his wife of years, Ida Carlson; son, stan Carlson and his wife, Marilyn of Porterville; daughter, Shari Carlson of Sacramento; and grandson, Ryan Carlson and his wife, Grace of Reedley; stepsons, Kerry, Craig and Jayme Stevens and Jeff Talbert. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 49 years, Marie Carlson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hoffmann Hospice, 5300 California Ave., Ste. #1, Bakersfield, CA 93309 or The American Cancer Society, 1523 California Ave., Bakersfield, CA 93304.
