She was the daughter of Fermin and Virginia Espino. In 1922 her family moved from Texas to Shafter, California. She lived on a ranch when she first moved here till she was about seven years old. Petra attended Maple School and graduated from Richland Jr. High, which was the end of her education. She had one sister, Lottie and a brother, Joe. At the age of 20, she became a queen candidate on September 16, 1935, in the celebration of Mexicos independence from Spain. Petra worked at Mercantile Department stores including Floyds until the age of 87. She was a widow for eight years, then married Nieves Carrasco whom she is survived by. She is also survived by her children, Nieves Dan Carrasco, Andrew Carrasco, Virginia Huckaby, Cathi Hall, Ronald Carrasco, Johnny Nieto, Richard Nieto, Tommy Nieto as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held Monday, April 11, at St. Therese Church, in Shafter, from 6-7 p.m. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, April 12, 11:00 a.m., at St. Therese Church.
