Jerry had resided with his family in Tehachapi since 2000, when he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. He had recently returned to Sonoma County, where he had lived and raised his children and passed from this life comfortably and peacefully under the tender care of the nurses at Fircrest Convalescent Hospital in Sabastopol. Jerry was born on Dec. 26, 1935, to Oliver and Willa Carroll in Sedalia, Colo. Those privileged to know Jerry knew him to be a kind and honorable man with a big, generous heart. He loved God and His creation. He also adored his family, who will all miss him greatly. He is survived by the love of his life, his former wife, Billie, and his children, Debbie and husband Time Gonnella, all residing in central Oregon; sons, Chuck Carroll of San Pablo and Kevin and wife Ellen Carroll, who have recently returned to the redwoods of Occidental in Sonoma County after residing in Tehachapi for the past 16 years. Jerry had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren, Angie Gonnella Ensey and husband Jason; Gabriel and Jacob Gonnella; Daniel Sapp; Brian and wife Marla; Rory, Katie and Tim Carroll; and eight great-grandchildren who provided him with much joy. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Bud and Shirley James of Bakersfield; brother, Norman Carroll of Jerome, Idaho; and his beloved sister, Barbara Kennard of Caldwell, Idaho; their families and numerous nieces and nephews who all remember Jerry as their favorite uncle. Special thanks to Cindy and the staff at Fircrest Convalescent for helping Jerry return to spend his last days in the land he loved so much. Also thanks to Marget Willer and Rita McCool of the Senior Sack Program in Tehachapi for all their fellowship, love and support of Jerry in his time of need. A small memorial service will be celebrated sometime in September in Occidental on the ranch he loved so much. In lieu of flowers, those who knew Jerry may want to just offer a simple prayer of thanks to God for his very special life and his long-awaited homecoming in heaven.
