Thomas Elbert Cashen 
July 9, 1913 - June 16, 2005 

Memorial services for Thomas Elbert Cashen will be held at St. Philip The 
Apostle Catholic Church on Saturday morning, June 25, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. Tom 
is preceded in death by his grandson, Matthew Thomas Cashen; brother, Eugene 
Cashen and sister, Regina Cashen. Tom is survived by his wife, Betsy; his four 
children, Gigi Marek, Thomas V. Cashen, Suzy Canton, Cathy Olewiler and their 
spouses; sixteen grandchildren; sister, Lucille Becker and brother, William 
Cashen. Tom was born in Taylorville, Illinois and he was raised on a farm in 
Morrisonville, Illinois. Then he moved to Adrian, Michigan and eventually 
California in 1931 where he graduated from Los Angeles High School. Tom served 
in the U.S. Army in Alaska during WWII. Tom opened Cashen Jewelry Store on 
Olympic Blvd. in Los Angeles and he worked as a watchmaker for over 50 years. 
He also worked in his nephews car business. Tom married Betsy Gay Gunst in 
1954 and together they had five children. He lived in Placerville from 1992-
1999 then he moved to Bakersfield where he lived the remainder of his life and 
where he passed away peacefully at home after a brief illness. He was loved by 
all that knew him and he will be deeply missed. Tom is followed in death by 
his daughter, Mimi Rowles, who passed away on June 22, 2005 in Lebanon,
