A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 13, at 535 Matilija Lane, in Arroyo Grande. Her nephew, David Champness, will lead the service. A buffet luncheon will be served and casual attire is requested. Margaret was born March 5, 1928, in Bakersfield to Catherine and Edward Champness. She spent her early years keeping up with her older brothers, Eddie and Elwood. Margaret graduated from Kern County Union High School, where she began many lasting friendships. She married Edward 'Spud' Kehoe in 1947, and they were team Spud and Margaret for 58 years. After the birth of her two daughters, Margaret graduated from Fresno State and began a 25-year teaching career with the Bakersfield City School District. She loved music and art and her creative abilities were shared with both her students and colleagues. Margaret's interests included skiing, golfing, dancing and painting. After her retirement, she was able to renew her childhood love of horses. An accomplished rider, she spent many happy hours with her beloved horse, Lady C. Margaret and Spud moved from Bakersfield to Arroyo Grande in 1996, and they enjoyed the challenge of building and decorating their dream home. She recently joined a writing class and she shared her life story with new friends while writing her memoirs. Margaret is survived by her husband, Spud, and daughter, April, of Arroyo Grande; daughter, Lynn Roberts and husband, Allen of Bakersfield; grandchildren, Nick Roberts and Lindsay Roberts of Bakersfield; and brother, Elwood Champness and wife, Ouida, of Bakersfield. Margaret also leaves behind a large family, including many cousins, nieces, nephews and numerous friends. She was preceded in death by her dear parents and her brother, Edward, and his wife, Eleanor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Margaret's name to Hospice Partners of the Central Coast, 277 South St., Ste. R., San Luis Obispo, CA 93401.
