She was born on September 5, 1914, in Brookings, South Dakota, to Carl and Martha Christopherson. She grew up in Brookings, and attended South Dakota State College and Eitel Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis, Minn, from which she graduated in 1936. In 1937, she married Joe E. She worked as an RN, in the 1950's and 60's, at Mrs. Friese's Maternity Home, at Mercy Hospital in ICU,Third Main, and surgery, and for the office of Dr.'s Coker, Cawley, and Friend. In 1965, she married Nelson J. Roscoe and soon after, retired from active nursing to travel in their Open Road camper across the United States and Canada, and to many favorite fishing lakes. She had many passions, among them good books, fine linens, antique dolls, Asian treasures, her beautiful garden, the wonders of nature, and the comfort of her home. She values her family, her neighbors, her friends - On life's simple pleasures, her comfort depends. We have all gratefully received her gifts of wisdom, love, compassion, and humor, as she charted a course of grace and beauty throughout her life. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Norman Stanley, of Bakersfield, CA; her son and daughter-in-law, Dick and Sue Cranston, of Fresno, CA; grandchildren, Scott, Brian, Susan, and Eric and wife, Julie Stanley, Christian Cranston and spouse, Joe Garcia, Melissa and husband, Mike Navarro, and Michelle Bison; great-grandchildren, Lauren, Michael, William, Sage, Thomas, Sarah, Joseph, Jonathon, Haley Sue, Jocelyn, and Ryan; her sister-in-law, Nina Mae Garthune of Austin, Texas; and several nieces and nephews and their families. The family wishes to thank Dr. David Dougherty and his office staff for their compassion and care, Optimal Hospice (RN Patty), and her neighbors and friends, young and old, who have added such a dimension of joy to her life. We will gather in her backyard to celebrate her life and honor her memory. Please plant a beautiful flower in your garden and tend it with care in honor of our beloved mother and Nana.
