Tom was born to Jonas and Emily Clark in San Jose, California, the oldest of 3 children. Tom never met a stranger and was a natural born salesman. In his 94 years he had at least 4 careers. He began his livelihood as a station attendant for Standard Oil Company in Gilroy, CA, when your wages were paid in solid gold dollars. Through his acquaintances he became involved in the cattle business and later raising and breeding Appaloosas. As a natural turn he then had an auction yard, which brought more livestock. As San Jose gave way to urban sprawl, yet another opportunity beckoned him to the small town of Susanville in Northern California where he operated The Pardner western wear, saddlery, tack and feed. The last 20 years of his career, his love of horticulture led him to add a landscape/nursery business. His creative designs live on at some of the wonderful homes in the Lake Almanor area. During his 35 years there, he developed many friends and deep relationships. God granted a very long and interesting life and he has gone home to be with his parents, brothers, sisters and all his old cronies. We are sure his son-in-law is fixing him a tall picon and his sister-in-law is cooking his favorite dinner. Tom is survived by his wife of 44 years, Dorothy; son, Peter Clark and wife, Leah of Monte Vista, Colorado; stepson, George Contival and wife, Julie of Las Vegas, Nevada; son, Michael Thomas Clark of Seoul, South Korea; daughter, Mary Kathryn Clark Burandt and husband, Walter of Windsor, CA; stepdaughter, Terry Arduain of Bakersfield; 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. We shall all miss him dearly. We thank LVN Aundra for her compassionate assistance in his 11th hour, Tiffany and Michelle for their very kind and gentle care and RN Patty. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the hospice or charity of your choice. Greenlawn Mortuary Funeral Directors Legacy.com Published in the Bakersfield Californian on 7/10/2005.
