She was the oldest of eight children. She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. She moved to Bakersfield, CA in 1952 and joined Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of H.A. Green, pastor. She later married Frank Williams and to this union no children were born. Aretha worked as a domestic worker for Louis and Doreta Agnetti for fifty years. She was an active member of th Elks Lodge Goodwill #325 most of her adult life. She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank Williams; her mother, Nona Clopton; her father, Elmo Clopton; a brother, L.B. Clopton and a sister, Operetus Tomlin. Aretha Williams leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her homegoing: four sisters and one brother, Joyce Smith, Willie Curtis Clopton and wife, Katie of Bakersfield, CA, Mable Little of Union City, CA, Venoise Carter of Riverside, CA, Norene Sloan of Poplar Bluff, MO; a brother- in-law, Rudolph Tomlin (Daddy Rudy); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and a special friend, Lillian Railback. The family gives a special thank you to Dr. Edward Nichols. Viewing and visitation to start Friday, May 13, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. with an hour of meditation to be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., in the Chapel of Ruckers Mortuary. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 14, 2005, at 10:00 a.m., at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 825 California Ave. Pastor H.T. Calhoun is officiating with interment to follow at Union Cemetery.
