Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Monday, March 14, 2005, 7:00 p.m., at St. Thomas Catholic Church. David or Cuyo, as everybody in Arvin knew him, was born October 26, 1932, in Holtville, CA, to Pedro and Loretta Contreras and passed away March 10, 2005, in a Bakersfield hospital. Cuyo was well known in Arvin, as he walked all over town with a hello and smile for everybody he met in his travels. He loved his nieces and nephews, and made sure they were all safely home after school while they attended Sierra Vista School. He loved working and helping St. Thomas Church on Sundays and at church functions. He is survived by his sister, Mary Martinez and brother-in-law, Larry of Holtville, CA; sister, Gloria Carlos and brother-in-law, Joe of Arvin; brother, Frank Contreras and sister-in-law, Dina of Atwater, CA; brother, Joe Contreras and sister-in-law, Annie of Bakersfield; brother, John Contreras and sister-in-law, Sandy of Bakersfield; brothers, Charlie, Robert and Pete of Arvin. He also leaves numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Cuyo was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Loretta Contreras; niece, Valerie Contreras and sister-in-law, Lupe Contreras. Visitation will be Sunday, March 13, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Monday, March 14, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Arvin Funeral Home.
