Don M. Derryberry Lieutenant Commander USNR Services: Tues., Nov. 1, 10:00 a.m. Lieutenant Commander Don M. Derryberry, USNR (ret), reported to a new duty station with the Lord on October 26, 2005 in Phoenix, leaving his widow, Trish. Also surviving are sons, Kevin Derryberry of Phoenix, AZ; Patrick (Sonia) Derryberry and Michael Derryberry of Bakersfield, CA; and his stepchildren, Mark Fabiano of Gulfport, MS; Brian (Jennifer) Fabiano of Phoenix, AZ; and Donna (Terry) Lucchesi of Livermore, CA; grandchildren, Sheena, Ashley, Christopher, Brandon, Robbie, Desiree, Tony, Veronica and Joshua will miss their Grampy. Born in Los Angeles, May 8, 1935, to George and Edna Derryberry, Don resided in Phoenix, AZ since 1970 after living his earlier years in Bakersfield, CA. He graduated from East Bakersfield High School and attended Bakersfield College. He enlisted in the Navy Reserve in February of 1965, retiring in April of 1995 after a little more than 30 years of service. He volunteered to be called to active duty in 1969 for service with the Seabees in Vietnam. He was advanced to Commissioned Officer status while serving as a Senior Chief Storekeeper, very proud of being a Mustang and a Vietnam veteran. Don also was retired from Mervyns Dept. Store. Long an aficionado of the shooting sports after competing on a Navy rifle team for several years, Don volunteered many hours at the Ben Avery Range as a range safety officer. He was a Life Member of the National Rifle Association and held the rating of NRA Certified Firearms Instructor in several disciplines. He was also an American Legion member. Don was a member of First Baptist Church. He was predeceased by his parents; a daughter, Tracy; and his brother, Jerry. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 1st, 10:00 a.m., at First Baptist Church, 7000 N. Central Ave., in Phoenix, Arizona, followed by a 1:00 p.m. graveside service at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix, Arizona.
