Visitation: Thursday March 23, 2006, 4:00pm to 7:00pm, Hillcrest Memorial Park. Olney Dillinger, son of Eliga and Bessie (Sears) Dillinger, was born and raised on their farm in Arkansas. He was an active child who adored his parents. He excelled in sports, with baseball being his favorite. He married his sweetheart who became his devoted wife and life-long companion, Rheacene Jewell Bray in 1942. He served four years during WWII in the U.S. Navy stationed in Hawaii. Upon honorable discharge in 1946, he and his wife moved to Bakersfield to join his family in the grocery business at Sears Markets. During his career he worked in and owned markets in Bakersfield. He was a well known butcher and his meat counter was his showcase. Customers drove for miles to purchase his specialty cut meats and most family members still use his famous meat seasoning. Olney and Rheacene became members of St. Mark's Methodist Church in 1954. He participated in many church activities but he particularly enjoyed being a greeter on Sunday mornings. He retired in 1982 and together they traveled the continental United States with their trailer in tow until the late 90's. He never met a stranger, and enjoyed visiting friends and family nationwide. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and made many memorable trips to Montana with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter Amanda Wilson. Olney is survived by his wife Rheacene, three daughters and sons-in-law; Roger and Diana Wilson, Bill and Sharon Baker, Russell and Debra Frank; nine grandchildren, Samantha, Jarid, Jon, Alison, Stephen, Ryan, Angelina, Seth and Michelle, as well as, seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Ercille Scott, her sons, Dennis and Allen and their families. His death came as a result of Alzheimer's disease and cancer. Memorial tributes may be made to St. Mark's Methodist Church or the local Alzheimer's Association. Published in the Bakersfield Californian on 3/23/2006.
