Dale M. Drake 1913 - 2006 Services: Tues., Feb. 14, 2:00 p.m. Dale M. Drake, a kind and gentle man, passed on to a new life on February 6, at the age of 92, to meet and talk over old times with the many friends and family who passed before him. Graveside services will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park, at 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday, February 14, 2006. He was born November 30, 1913 in Princeton, Indiana one of eight siblings. The family moved to Whittier, California in 1922 where he graduated from high school in 1932. He continued his education at the Fred Wiggins Trade School majoring in diesel engineering and mechanics. He also earned from General Motors Corporation, a Certified Craftsman Award in auto mechanics. Dale came to Bakersfield in 1935, where he was employed by Motor Center, the local GMC dealer. Dale started a career with P.G.&E. in 1942 where he ultimately retired as the manager of the Arvin-Lamont Electrical Services Division in 1975. He had lived and worked in the area since 1952. He married Millicent Morger Drake in 1936. Dale was the father of four (Larry Drake married to Loretta, Sandra married to Art Dahlstrom, Beth (deceased) married to Ken Calley, and Kaye married to Bob Vibe). Dale was affectionately called "Bobo" by his grandchildren, Lori Park, Eddie Drake, Patrick Calley, Scott Calley, Denise Ford, Karen Vibe, and Stephen (Bucky) Martin. Dale married Ruth Grady of Lamont in 1968 and became part of that ready-made family with three step- children; Bob Grady married to Reba, Shirley married to Dennis Ford, and Betty Ann married to Jim Simmons. After Ruth's death Dale was adopted into the loving family of Dee Keeling. The Keelings, Linda married to Jerry Mainus and Joey married to Pat, also thought of Dale as family. Dale was very active in community and civic affairs. He was a member of the Arvin Planning Commission and Director of both the Arvin Chamber of Commerce and Lions Club and an officer of the Arvin Development Corporation. He was honored by the Arvin City Council for his contributions to the community. He continued his community service even in retirement by serving as President of the Resident's Council at Glenwood Gardens where he lived for the past six years Dale always gladly offered his wisdom and expertise related to auto repair and electrical wiring and found so many other ways to be of service. Many friends have sought help and advice from him over the years. If there was something that needed to be fixed everyone knew that Dale would have the know-how. His first love was sports, especially baseball. He played semi-pro baseball in the Los Angeles area, ultimately switching to fast pitch softball when he moved to Bakersfield. Dale also enjoyed square dancing. His loving nature, smiling face, and mischievous / teasing nature will be sincerely missed by all.
