Dunn Aug. 23, 1930 – Dec. 30, 2005 Daniel T. Dunn, 75, went to his heavenly home to be with his Lord on Dec. 30, 2005. Dan was born in Dinuba on Aug. 23, 1930 to R. Wilfred and Eulalia Cochran Dunn. The family moved to the bay area during World War II, then returned to Dinuba in 1944 where Dan graduated from Dinuba High School in 1948. He went on to receive a degree from Kings River College in Reedley and attended Oklahoma A & M. In 1951, Dan married the love of his life, Mavis Steele. They enjoyed life together for 54 years. Dan served in the Air Force in Seoul, Korea with the Fifth Air Force division headquarters and upon return to the states was stationed at Edwards Air Force Base until his discharge. He stayed at Edwards where he began his career with General Electric in the jet engine division. His 30 year career with G.E. took him to Southern California in 1977 for 10 years, then to G.E.’s flight test facility in Mojave, where he finally realized his dream of flying. Dan and Mavis moved to Tehachapi, where they have lived since 1987. When Dan retired in 1992, they were able to enjoy traveling in their R.V., seeing the U.S., Canada, the Yukon and spent several months in Alaska. Dan especially loved the Sierras and the mountains of Colorado. Snow skiing was a sport he enjoyed wholeheartedly and when his children reached the age of four, he felt it was a great time for them to learn. Eventually ski vacations to Utah and Sierra Nevada resorts became a special family event. Dan’s first love was cars. While in high school and college he always had an after-school job for the express purpose of owning a car, which he kept spotless and dazzlingly shiny. Through the years he was teased about his shiny- beyond-belief cars and at one time was accused of stopping in the middle of nowhere to give his car a polish because he thought he saw a dirty spot. Dan was a quiet man who chose not to comprise his faith or values. His life was an expression of his faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and savior. He taught his children by word and example to know the Lord Jesus. Dan was preceded in death by his son, Gary Allen, who lived only 15 hours after his birth in 1953; two brothers, Richard and Bill; and his sister, Harriette Annis. He is survived by his wife, Mavis; son, Daniel Robert Dunn and wide Marilyn of Tehachapi; daughter, Donna Stebbing and husband Bob of Azusa; four beloved grandchildren, Jason and Jessica Dunn, and Sarah and Krista Stebbing; and sister, Patricia Dunn Montague of Upland. A memorial service for Dan will be held on Saturday, Jan. 14, at 11 a.m. at the Bear Valley Community Church, located at 26108 Plateau Way. Wood Family Funeral Service handled the cremation arrangements. Additional Comments: Volunteer submission - No relation to the deceased.
