Jayne lived in Bakersfield since 1951. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kenneth Russell Evans, who died several months short of their 70th wedding anniversary last year. The daughter of Ella and Claude Deagan and granddaughter of John Calhoun Deagan, founder of the J.C. Deagan Company, pioneer in the making of chimes, xylophones and other musical instruments. The company installed more than 400 carillons in this country and abroad for nearly 42 years, including the Mission Inn in Riverside, CA and the Stephen Foster Memorial Carillon in Florida. During her teens, Jayne was an Olympic caliber swimmer, swimming with such greats as Johnny Weissmuller and Buster Crabbe at the Illinois Athletic Club. During her 20s she was a fine horsewoman, riding western-style for pleasure and jockeying her own trotters to the winners circle at Hollywood Park. She was also comfortable making a triple shot on dove on the wing while hunting with her family in the Cuyama Valley in the late 1940s. Jayne was a great golfer and always a focused competitor in that sport. She was the first Womens Champion at Santa Maria Country Club and was Womens Champion numerous times at Bakersfield Country Club, where she was a member for over 50 years. During her 50s and 60s, she enjoyed a successful career in real estate with Boydstun Real Estate in Bakersfield. She was appointed to the State of California Real Estate Board of Ethics, and attained a life exemption as a Realtor in California. She was a life member of the Assistance League. She is survived by her two sons, Terry Evans and Tony Evans; Terrys son, Scott Russell Evans and daughter, Loriann Arnot; Tonys son, Christopher Jason Evans and four great-grandchildren. In accordance with her wishes there will be no services and no visitation. She will be in our hearts and memories forever.
