De La Torre Aka Big Papa & Papa Joe The De La Torre Family would love you to pay tribute in celebrating Jose N. De La Torre Jrs Life. The Rosary will be held at St. Josephs Church on Tuesday, July 5 at 7 p.m. The Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Wednesday,July 6, 2005 at St. Josephs Church at 10 a.m. Graveside service will be held thereafter at Greenlawn Mortuary on 3700 River Blvd. Joe was born to Jose and Lucia De La Torre on August 1, 1941, in Tehachapi, CA. He attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Elementary School where he was an altar server. He also attended Garces, Lincoln, Washington Jr. High and East Bakersfield High School. He later graduated from Bakersfield High Night School in 1964. Joe worked hard all of his life for his family. He belonged to the Local Union 220 for 45 years and worked for many construction companies as a laborer. He started his own business, De La Torre Construction Service in 1980. Joe was a Eucharistic Minister, and involved with Marriage Encounter. He sponsored many JBA teams, Mens softball teams and individual athletes. Joe devoted his life in helping all those in need. He contributed his time and equipment to help Light the Night at East Bakersfield High School. Joe helped with various BBQ and Steak dinners for many school and church functions. Joe embraced the love of his life, Josie De La Torre for 45 years of marriage. He is survived by his six children: Joe A. De La Torre III, Christina De La Torre, Catherina and her husband Raul Muņoz, Daniel, Esteban and David De La Torre; grandchildren: Andrew and Arnold Berlanga, Joe M. De La Torre IV and Matthew De La Torre and Domenico A. De La Torre; great-grandchildren: Aaron and Aaliyha Berlanga. He loved many others as his own. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Lucia De La Torre and his sister, Ramona Vega. He is also survived by brothers and their wives: Carlos and Carmen De La Torre, Jaime and Margaret De La Torre, Cirilo De La Torre; his sisters, Margaret Vigil and Sarah Marquez. Joe was a devoted family man, being a great husband, dad, brother, friend/compadre and father figure that was loved and cherished. He was very involved and supportive of his children and grandchildren. His love for his family kept him working early and endless hours. He was quiet, humble, loving, yet a boisterous man. But when he spoke, people listened. He will be deeply missed by all. The De La Torre Family would like to thank all who loved and touched his 63 years of life with us.
