Lena a native of Skoutari, Greece has joined her beloved husband of 39 years. She traveled the world with her husband who was employed by an oil company. They have made Bakersfield their home since the late 80s. Lena was known for her hospitality and always giving every one something every time, whether it would be cookies, candies or even plates of food. She loved people, and she loved her church. She always worried about others, never thinking of herself. Lena is survived by her son, Jim and Eleni Southerd, daughters, Patsy Gardiner of Portland OR, Towana and Jim Wilkerson of Nashville, TN; siblings and their children, George and Natali Demestihas of Bakersfield, Katina Giannios of Chicago IL, Toula and Ansastasis Triadafilidou, Mitsos and Areti Demestihas, Xarili and Vasiliki Demestihas, all of Greece; grandchildren, Ray and Dena Southerd, Kevin and Annie; sons, Kimberly Talbot, Donnie Case, Becky McCormick, Bill Gilpin; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation will be Sunday, July 31, 5-6 p.m., Doughty-Calhoun-O'Meara Funeral Home, 1100 Truxtun Ave. Following the visitation there will be a Trisagion at St. George Greek Orthodox Church at 7:00 p.m. Legacy.com Published in the Bakersfield Californian on 7/31/2005.
