She met the love of her life, Joseph Cantelmi at the Palladium when Joe was a sailor, serving in World War II. They were married March 3, 1946. Sylvia was very committed to her children and family. She was a past president and member of St. Francis Altar Guild, Young Homemakers, Columbia Wives, Golden Ages, and Young Ladies Institute. She was an excellent seamstress and worked many years at Haskells Costume Shop. Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Jean Christensen. She was a devoted wife for 59 years to her beloved Joe. She took great pride in raising her three children, Nancy, Anthony and Frank and keeping her family in line. She was a true matriarch. Sylvia leaves behind her husband Joe, their children and spouses, Nancy and Richard ONeil, Anthony Cantelmi and Shelly Garone, Frank and Tina Cantelmi. She also leaves her seven grandchildren , Kristen and Tim ONeil, Angie, Jennifer, Joey, Daniel and Nick Cantelmi. They will serve as pallbearers. Sylvia had wished to live long enough to see one of her grandchildren get married, and although she will not be with us in two weeks when Tim ONeil marries his love Taryn Hilken, we know she will be with them in spirit. The family would like to thank Father Craig Harrison, Dr. James Saiki, Optimal Hospice, Lori Smith, Alice Bender and Sharon Hicks for their compassionate medical care, emotional support and personal kindness. Sylvia was devoted to her God and her church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to Saint Francis Church.
