A private celebration of his life was held Saturday April 9th at the home of his son. Burley was preceded in death by his wife, Adrienne and son, John. He is survived by his son, David Dooley and wife, Laurie of Bakersfield, daughter, Annette Collins and Charles Newcomb of San Jose, and daughter-in-law, Brenda Dooley of Paso Robles, as well as six grandchildren and three great- grandchildren. Burley was born in 1912 in Texas and moved to California when he was eight years old. He attended schools in Ceres and Modesto where he excelled in sports and drama. Burley attended college on a football scholarship and received a Bachelor's degree from the University of Nevada at Reno and a Master's degree from Cal Poly. He taught Agriculture in Nevada and California spending 28 years at Shafter High School. He met his wife, Adrienne Bouverot, in Reno where they were married in 1939. They celebrated over fifty years of marriage. Burley was a devoted husband and cared for Adrienne when she was stricken with Alzheimer's. Burley was a member of Shafter Lions Club and Kiwanis and served on the Shafter Planning Commission for a number of years. He enjoyed fishing, horseback riding, woodwork, poetry, and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Burley lived a long, full, and healthy life until recent years. His family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Parkview Julian Convalescent Home for their care over the past year.
