"Bill" 1926 - 2005 George W. (Bill) Dorris December 1, 1926 - May 26, 2005 Bill passed away on May 26, 2005, in Los Altos, CA, of Parkinsons. He is survived by his loving wife, Avis, to whom he was married for 56 years; his daughter, Marian Ferguson of Battle Ground, WA; three stepsons, Brent Campbell of Mountain View, CA, Gary Campbell of San Rafael, CA, and Daryl Campbell of Lake Oswego, OR; sister-in-law, Norma Dorris of Bakersfield, CA; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. He was born and raised in Bakersfield, CA, on December 1, 1926. He received an honorable discharge from the Merchant Marines on November 29, 1947, with a World War II Victory Medal and an Army of Occupation Medal, Japan. He was an electrician and rifle M1 Expert. Bill joined Pacific Telephone as an installer in 1948. He was promoted to management in 1953 and left Bakersfield in 1956 for San Francisco. In 1959, he received another promotion and moved to Fresno, where he remained until 1965. In 1965, he was promoted again and moved to San Jose. He retired in 1978 in Santa Cruz. Bill loved fishing and dining out with his long-time friends and family. He loved to cook, and became quite a chef. There will be no services per his request.
