A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, August 27, 2005, at 10:00 a.m., at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 1401 E. Brundage Ln., Bishop Charles Blake is officiating with interment to follow at Union Cemetery. Pastor Duffey was born to the late West and Cora Duffey on May 17, 1915, in Dennison, Texas and he had been Pastor of St. Paul C.O.G.L.C. for 48 years. He has also been the Pastor and overseer of churches in Bakersfield, Arvin, Earlimart, Delano, Wasco and more. Pastor Nathaniel Duffey has been a friend to the community and loved by all, the church families as well as the surrounding community. Forerunners in Bishop Duffeys final journey was the love of his life for 54 years, Evangelist Missionary Lucille (Williams) Duffey; his children, Sabrina Ann, Rev. Nathan Marvin and Joe Melvin Duffey; his siblings, Charley, Weldon, Rev. Isaiah, Jessie, A.B. Duffey, Helen (Walter) Jacobs, Geraldine Lawson, District Missionary Lucille Howard, and Pearline Clark; three devoted sisters- in-law, Lottie L. Duffey, Daisy Jackson, and Florence Sheppard and one brother- in-law, Carl Ashe. Assistant Bishop Emeritus Nathaniel Duffey leaves to cherish his memories his children, Beverly Martin, Ph.D., and spouse, Bishop Truman Martin D.D.S. of Dayton, Ohio; Rev. Dr. Nathaniel Duffey, Jr. of Los Angeles, CA, Evangelist Missionary Darl Anne Oats of Bakersfield, CA; grandchildren, Demetrius (Gerald Doc) Lewis, Deidra Duffey, William Oats, Tranisha (Douglas) Misenheimer, Pastor Nathaniel Duffey, III, Rev. Trenton (Kanule Martin, Dyrwen and Dywren Oats, Nashon Duffey, Trevon Martin, Nayeena Duffey, Trushana Martin and Travarus Martin; great-grandchildren, Xaviera, Brennen and Amaya Misenheimer; sisters, Mrs. Rubye Ashe and Ms. Katherine Brown of Bakersfield, CA; brothers, Herman Duffey of Bakersfield, CA; Superintendent W.D. (District Missionary Hattie) Duffey of Pittsburgh, CA; Superintendent Nathan Duffey of Fort Worth, Texas; three loving brothers-in- law, M.C. (Doris) Williams, Pastor C.C. Sheppard, Minister Charles (Janell) Jackson; god-daughters, Diana Rakestraw, Stephanie Jackson, Victoria Sims; two special great-grandchildren, Scott and Troy; devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives; Bishops most cherished St. Paul Church family, along with past and present Bakersfield District members, and special friends too numerous to name. Pastor Duffey had a dream and strong desire that Sabrinas House for unwed mothers be supported. It is a nonprofit Community Development Corporation that will keep mothers and their infants for at least 8 months to assist in their goal setting, self-esteem, and parenting.
