Dan was a longtime resident of Kern County. He was born on February 18, 1944, in Bakersfield, CA to Hershel and Lillie Ensey. Dan grew up in Semi Tropic working for his Dad, farming for Haddad and Barling. He excelled as a baseball pitcher in his youth and was scouted by the Angels. The trauma caused by the sudden death of his brother, Truman, in 1959 ended that dream. During this time he became a father like figure to his beloved younger sister, Debbie. After high school he moved with his family to Wasco and developed a love for fixing up cars and drag racing the quarter mile. He then joined the National Guard after which he continued farming. He married Pat Corcoran September 22, 1968 in Wasco and started a family. He became very well known working for some of the most successful farming operations in the area including WB Camp, Haddad and Barling, and Roberts farms. He worked overseas in Libya and Russia for Bell Corporation on a project to teach farming there. He later managed 15,000 acres of grapes for Tejon Agriculture. He finished his career as land application manager for American Yeast Corporation. His operation was very successful and a model for other land applications. He was consulted for other land application projects all over the country. When his marriage to Pat ended Dan dedicated the rest of his life to his children and never remarried. He was a single father who raised three kids. He was a beloved father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Although we grieve our loss, we rejoice for his gain and take solace in the fact that his grandchildren, Claire, Daniel, David, James, Gabriel and Jude will be watched over by their new guardian angel, Grandpa Danny. Dan was preceded in death by his brother, Truman and his parents, Hershel and Lillie. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Chad and Maggie Ensey; daughter and son-in-law, DeAnna and Brian Johnson; son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Maria Ensey; his sister and brother-in-law, Debbie and John White and their daughters Alexandria and Jillian White. He also leaves behind many friends whom he met throughout nearly four decades of farming Kern County soil. A memorial service will be held Thursday, February 16th, at Greenlawn Mortuary, 3700 River Blvd., in Bakersfield, at 10:00 a.m., followed by graveside service at Wasco Memorial Cemetery at approximately 12 noon. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimers Disease Association of Kern County, 5500 Olive Dr., Bldg. 1, 393- 8871.
