Mr. Esau died in his home on Oct. 11. he was born Dec. 12, 1927, in Petersburg, Neb., to John and Elma Esau and was third eldest of six children. He eventually moved with his family to Douglas, Wyo., where he was raised on his father’s cattle ranch. In 1946 Richard joined the United States Marine Corps, where he served for three years. During his commitment he served on the cruiser U.S.S. Chicago and was selected to serve in President Truman’s Honor Guard Detail. He received an honorable discharge. In September 1947, Mr. Esau married Betty Lucille Leininger in Washington, D.C. The couple moved to Casper, Wyo., where he worked for Standard Oil for eight years. During their 10 year marriage, they had four children, Carol, Catherine, Lou Ellen and Richard II. He married Martha Ann Cassady on April 10, 1962 in Salem, Ore. They were married for 34 years until Martha’s death in January 1996. They had one daughter, Jacqueline, from this marriage. During his time in Portland, Ore., He began a 24 year career as an aircraft flight test mechanic. Eventually Mr. Esau moved his family to Tehachapi. he worked at Edwards AFB for Lockheed Martin and it’s predecessor companies for approximately 20 years until his retirement. Mr. Esau was a resident in Stallion Springs for 29 years. Richard had a great love for the outdoors. He enjoyed hiking in the hills around his home. He was a great friend and neighbor and would always help out when needed. Mr. Esau was a member of Bear Valley springs Community Church and had a strong faith in Christ. That faith in Christ and His promises gave him comfort even in the months of declining health. He is survived by his daughters, Carol Harris of Addison, N.Y; Catherine DiTullio of Redding, Conn.; Lou Ellen Campbell of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and Jacqueline Bastian of Lompoc; sisters, Helen Bess of Englewood, Colo., and Irene Story of Lusk, Wyo.; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Martha; three brothers, Ivan, donald and Harold; and his son Richard Gordon Esau II. Interment will be at Douglas Park Cemetery, Douglas, Wyo. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Optimal Hospice, 4800 Stockdale Highway, Suite 215, Bakersfield, CA 93309 or Comprehensive Blood and Cancer Center, 6501 Truxtun Ave., Bakersfield, CA 93309. Wood Family Funeral Service handled the cremation arrangements.
