Ernie was born April 28, 1934 to Ernest and Annie (Rowe) Evans in Urbanna, Virginia. Ernie is survived by his wife of 44 years, Martha (Beatty) Evans; his daughter, Tracy Evans Roseboom of San Mateo, California; and his sister, Marlene (Evans) Garcia of Hampton, Virginia. After serving in the Navy during the Korean War, Ernie went on to play football at Virginia Tech and graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering. Soon after graduation, in 1963, Ernie, Martha and Tracy worked for North American, Lockheed and Northrop on such projects as the X-15, F-5, SR-71, L-1011 and the F-20 Tigershark. Ernie felt lucky in life as he felt he never spent a day working but rather a career doing something he loved. Ernie was a member of the Elks for nearly 40 years and enjoyed spending time at both the Lancaster and Wofford Heights lodges. He loved exploring the back roads of the desert in his SUV, fishing, spending time on the waters of Lake Powell aboard the Houseboat Tradewinds and sharing a bad joke and a good laugh with many friends. We will all miss him very much! A memorial service and reception will be held on Friday, December 9, 11:00 a.m., at the Wofford Heights Elks Lodge, 6708 Wofford Blvd., Wofford Heights, CA. Contributions may be made in Ernies honor to the charity of your choice. Antelope Valley Cremation Service Legacy.com Published in the Bakersfield Californian from 12/1/2005 - 12/2/2005.
