Michael Braun will officiate. Jane, who passed away October 17, 2005, was born January 25, 1915, in San Francisco, to Elizabeth (Bessie) and James J. Evans, the younger of two girls. Always feisty and demonstrating a love for life, Jane met Vincent on a blind date while both were attending USC. They were married August 26, 1939, and even though they had been happily married for 62 years, Vin remarked shortly before his death in 2002 that it had not been long enough. They were quite a team and proud that they were the parents of five daughters. In addition to attending USC, Jane spent a few semesters at UCLA, and finished her college education at Fresno State College where she earned a teaching credential all while she was caring for the five girls, none who were any less feisty than their mother. Prior to attending UCLA, Jane graduated from Banning High School in Southern California and was Senior Class President. Furthermore, Jane was a Charter Member of the Bakersfield Country Club, and a Directing Member of Cotillion. Although she traveled to the Holy Land, most of the countries in Europe, the Caribbean and Hawaii, Jane never let any activity interfere with her first calling, motherhood. Presently, the family numbers 58 people, and Jane never failed to remember a birthday, a baptism, a wedding, an anniversary, or a graduation from high school or college. Jane, who, because her astrological sign was the rabbit, considered herself lucky, was the Matriarch of our family and will be missed deeply. Jane is survived by her sister, Phyllis Evans of San Antonio, TX; her sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn Di Giorgio and Bill Grant; daughter, Lynne OBrien and husband, Tom; daughter, Gayle Dirkes and husband, Tim; daughter, Susan Owens; daughter, Kayti Tramel and husband, Phil; and daughter, Jan Sulivan and husband, Tim; 16 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. On behalf of the entire Jane Di Giorgio family, we would like to express our sincere thanks to Margrite Vickers, her caretaker, Doctors Robert Laughlin and Susan Helper, Jill the Emergency Room Nurse, and Shelly, Laurie, and Jennifer and the other personnel on the second floor of the Bakersfield Heart Hospital who comforted us and helped our mother to die with dignity. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association. Greenlawn Mortuary Funeral Directors Legacy.com Published in the Bakersfield Californian from 10/20/2005 - 10/21/2005.
