After attending USC, Santa Barbara City College, and UC Berkeley, she received her teaching credential and began her long career teaching in Lompoc and then on in Santa Barbara, Tulare, Visalia, Saticoy and Goleta. She was a gifted teacher who taught with patience and especially, praise. In fact she loved teaching reading so much that she volunteered to continue teaching during her summer vacations, and after she retired she just went back to school and kept teaching. When doctors told her she would have to avoid childrens germs she taught English to foreign students and reading to adults. In fact she continued to teach adults when she moved to Bakersfield in her eighties. Ruth was sure that she could teach anyone to read. People who knew her even briefly knew that she was very fond of and proud of her family in whom she took an active and constant interest. She is survived by her three daughters, all teachers, and their husbands, Janet and Michael Rodriguez of Oakland, Peggy and Dwight Ensor of Bakersfield, and Deborah and Larry Weller of Denver, by her grandchildren, Mark Ensor, Cindy Ensor Orr and John Ensor, Margaret Rodriguez, Mandy Weller Kelver and Rick Weller, and great- grandchildren, Ryan and Lauren Ensor, Austin and Stuart Orr, Molly and Gracie Ensor, and Max Kelver and Noah Weller. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Bill Edwards, missed him terribly after he passed away in 2001, and died eager to join him in Heaven. The family wishes to thank Hoffman Hospice for its compassionate and competent help and the staff and her friends at Rosewood Retirement Home for their kindness and love. There will be two memorial services, one at Rosewood Retirement Home on August 30, 2005 at 2 oclock in the Activity Room, and another, much later, in the Santa Barbara First Methodist Church in June 2006.
