Eggers March 19, 1914 - August 13, 2005 Ervin was born near Sioux Falls, S.D., the youngest of 7 children of Christopher Egger, a native of Switzerland, and Ursula Walley Egger of Iowa. During the Depression, at the age of 14, he came to California with his parents with one suitcase each and the hope that Christ could find employment out west. Christ was hired by Kern Valley Packing in Bakersfield and Erv, attended K.C.U.H.S., graduating in 1932. He received his AA from BC in 1934. He married Mildred Hickman in 1938 and they shared 62 years together until her passing in 2000. Ervin worked all of his adult life in the retail clothing business with the last 27+ years at Caspers Mens Store, downtown. He had a loyal following who looked to him to coordinate their clothing needs. He was a 33 degree Mason with over 50 years of membership and received a white hat as the highest honor in Scottish Rite. He was also very proud to be a Shriner. Chuck Zwartendyk, Chaplin, and Jack Henslee, Master, will preside at the Masonic graveside rite. Ervin was predeceased by his wife, Mildred; grandson, Todd Hathaway; 5 brothers and 1 sister. Survivors include his daughter, Lynn Finch and husband, Tom; grandsons, Benny Hathaway (wife, Veronica) and Chad Hathaway (fiancée, Kacie); great-grandsons, Johnny and Justin Hathaway and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held Thursday, August 18, 2005, 10:00 a.m., at Hillcrest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Shriners Hospitals.
