Evans was born on July 13, 1917, in Clarendon, Ark. to Henry and Erneza Evans. He served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II and was discharged Dec. 4, 1945. Evans married Gladys Marquerite Moon on Oct. 24, 1943, in Yuma, Ariz. He was employed as a police officer, retiring as captain of the Hawthorne Police Department. He and his wife moved to Tehachapi in 1978, where he served on the Tehachapi Planning Commission. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for more than 50 years, being a member of Tehachapi Lodge #313 F.&A.M. at the time of his death. He had been a member of Al Malaikah Shrine and other Masonic bodies. Evans is survived by his daughter, Nancy L. Wooten and granddaughter, Wendy Wooten, both of Tehachapi. He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Gladys Evans, in 1981. Wood Family Funeral Service handled the cremation arrangements.
