Sept. 20, 12:00p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, September 20, 2005 at 12:00 noon at St. Francis Catholic Church for Gino Fanucchi, 92, who died September 16th in Bakersfield. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery. Gino was born in Bakersfield on March 9, 1913 to Salvatore and Maria Bertolucci Fanucchi, both of whom came from the village of Tassignano, Lucca, Italy. He attended schools in Buttonwillow, Old River and Bakersfield. He lived and worked on the family farm in Buttonwillow before moving to Bakersfield in 1931 when he became employed as an ambulance driver for Doughty-Calhoun-OMeara Mortuary. That was the beginning of his life long career as a funeral director, a profession for which he was well suited as he was a man of honesty, compassion and deep integrity. In 1958, he purchased Doughty-Calhoun- OMeara which is still owned by the Fanucchi family. Until the Sunday before his death, he continued to spend a few hours a week at the funeral home. Although a quiet man himself, he treasured his family and friends and enjoyed being with them. Gino was a man of faith and strong moral values all of his life. In his later years his personal faith and devotion to his church continued to grow. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Edna; daughters Ellen and Gina; granddaughter, Kerrie Lou; sister, Jennie Cauzza of Buttonwillow; nephew, Johnny and wife Carla Cauzza; niece, Anna and husband Bob Kirby; great niece, Jennifer Kirby. Pallbearers will be his great nephews, John, Mike, Steve and Ron Cauzza, Bob and Phil Kirby. Throughout his life, Gino maintained an active presence in community activities and service organizations too numerous to mention but all close to his heart. With that in mind, please make memorial contributions to your church or charity of choice. Visitation is scheduled Monday from 1:00p.m. 8:00p.m. Doughty-Calhoun-OMeara Funeral Directors Legacy.com Published in the Bakersfield Californian from 9/18/2005 - 9/19/2005.
