The No. 1 most important thing in his life was his kids. Jim would want to be remembered, first and foremost, for being a really good dad, which he was and all of his kids would say he was the best and most important person in their lives. Jim was born in Downey on April 23, 1948 to James and Evelyn Farquarson. He was raised in Norwalk. Jim was drafted into the Army in November 1969. Jim worked at Lucky’s grocery store while putting himself through college. He received an associate’s degree in real estate and was a real estate broker since 1972 with real estate offices in Fullerton, Bakersfield and Tehachapi. Jim was also a general contractor and was skilled in a variety of trades. Jim met Valorie Milam in April of 1981 and often said, “we went on a date that lasted 24 years.” He regarded Val as his best friend. Jim had a somewhat unusual way of communicating, but he liked to talk and people that knew him always understood what he meant. He was a staunch republican and admired Ronald Reagan and both Georges. When his sons were younger, Jim participated heavily in Boy Scouts and gave sons Josh and Ian support in order for them to obtain their Order of the Arrow and Eagle Scout awards. Jim went to a million Girl Scout dances, horse shows, fundraisers and school plays. He was always a person who was willing to help others and he was happy to help. It made him feel good to see people that he helped overcome any trouble and move forward. Jim is survived by his wife, Valorie Farquarson; sons, Joshua, Ian and Thomas Farquarson; daughters, Emily, Jami and Autumn Farquarson, all of Tehachapi and Trisha Goddard of Scottsdale, Ariz.; granddaughter, Shaylene; mother, Evelyn Farquarson of Tehachapi; and numerous aunts and uncles. Reverend Floyd Castillo officiated at the service. Interment followed at Tehachapi Public Cemetery, Westside. Wood Family Funeral Service handled the arrangements.
