James M. Fogarty 
Oct. 4, 1916 - Nov. 12, 2005 

Services will be held today, November 15th, at 11:00 a.m., at Our Lady of 
Perpetual Help Church, 124 Columbus. Jim was born in Kalama, Washington to 
James Arthur and Anna Fogarty. After attending Kalama schools, he received his 
Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Washington in Seattle. He 
started his career with United Airlines in 1940 in San Francisco. He met his 
wife, Irma, who was a stewardess with United, and married her in 1941 at the 
Carmel Mission. Jims career with United took the family to Bend, OR, Santa 
Barbara, CA, Youngstown, OH, Los Angeles, CA and to Bakersfield where he 
retired in 1979 as station manager at Meadows Field, ending a 39 year career. 
Jim was a member of Downtown Rotary, involved in the Garces High School 
Parents Club, and the treasurer of the Garces Boosters Club for many years. He 
was the proud charter recipient of the Bob Carroll award in 1987 for his many 
years of service at Garces High School. Jim and Irma were active parishioners 
in O.L.P.H. for over 40 years. In 2004, they moved to Glenwood Gardens. Jim 
liked to golf, travel to Ireland to trace the Fogarty name in County 
Tipperary, attend spring training in Vero Beach, was an avid fan of the 
Bakersfield Blaze and a regular at Sam Lynn ballpark. Jim was preceded in 
death by his parents and his sisters, Mildred and Peg. Jim is survived by his 
wife of 64 years, Irma; his daughter and son-in-law, Terry and Jerry Beckwith; 
daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Dave Jones; son and daughter-in-law, 
Patrick and Sherri Fogarty; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Rob Horjus; 
grandchildren, Jennifer Beckwith, Noel Jones, Sarah Beckwith and husband, CJ 
Grimes, Kelly Sanseverino and husband Mark, Laura Forester, Kyle Fogarty, 
Kaitlyn Fogarty and great-granddaughter, Lila Rose Sanseverino. Memorials may 
be made to Garces Memorial High School Foundation or the charity of your 
choice.
