Edel was born on January 6, 1916, in Tulare, CA, to Bert and Mabel hart. The family stayed in Tulare, living in their home on Cherry Avenue and owning and operating the Tulare Electric Hatchery and Cold-Storage Company for many, many years. A member of the 1934 graduating class of Tulare High School, Edel also went on to graduate from the College Of The Sequoias in Visalia, CA and was subsequently employed at the City Hall in Tulare. While attending college, Edel met and fell in love with Hanfords own Patrick Ford. They married in 1940, and Edel became a full-time homemaker, devoting herself to her family. The return of her husband from Navy duty in WWII, and the birth of her children, Patrick and Mary were the cherries on the cake of what continued to be a wonderful life with a growing family that she enjoyed so much. Edel was also an avid reader, a movie-goer, a quick wit, a loyal friend, and set a good example for all. She had a keen eye for design, was very artistic and had a beautiful singing voice. She and Pat purposefully chose the quiet, simple life, emphasizing strong character and values. Pats career with the California Highway Patrol took the family to Hanford, to Bakersfield for 17 years, then Los Angeles, Los Osos, Sacramento and to Fresno, where she and Pat retired. Preceding Edel in death were her father, Bert A. Hart; mother, Mabel Lucy Hart; sister, Dorothy (Hart) Brown; and her loving husband of 62 years, Patrick Joseph Ford. Edel is survived by her son, Patrick J. Ford, IV and his wife, Patricia of Tehachapi, CA; and by her daughter, Mary (Ford) Rosenthal and her husband, Larry Smyth of San Luis Obispo, CA. Edel is also survived by her four grandchildren, Rebecca (Ford) Martinez and her husband, Jason Martinez of Williams, AZ, Christina (Ford) Hendon of Bakersfield and Andrew Deane Rosenthal and Derek Ford Rosenthal of San Luis Obispo, CA. She also leaves behind four great-grandchildren, Melissa, Paig and LeAnne Martinez and Reilly Herndon, as well as extended family and friends. Edel and her family were blessed to have the gift of time together in the days before her death.
