Franklin June 7, 1927 - November 2, 2005 Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 5th, at 10:00 a.m., in the sanctuary at Truth Tabernacle, on 214 Hoskings Road. Rev. Jerry Franklin and Pastor John Mullings will be the officiates. Interment will be at Greenlawn Southwest Memorial Park. Charles was born a twin on June 7, 1927, in Visalia, California. He spent his early years growing up in the Lindsay and Exeter areas. He joined the United States Army in 1944 during WWII at the age of 17. Charles fought the battle of Leyte Gulf on the Philippine Islands upon the return of General Douglas MacArthur. During this battle he received various medals for his actions, including a Bronze Star. He then was sent to Japan after the atomic bombs were dropped to assist with the cleanup. Returning from the war he married Vernie Eachers and has been able to enjoy the past 59 years of that relationship. Charles was led to the Lord in 1954 when he attended Pastor Paul Wilsons Pentecostal Church in Delano, California and a longtime member of Truth Tabernacle. Over the years he would perform various capacities of his Christian service from preaching to song leader and soul winning. In his last days he spoke of his love for church and God. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elsworth and Betty; two sisters, Betty and Loretta and one daughter, Sharon. He is survived by four daughters, Carol Burleson, Laura Carey and Karen Abel of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Donna Pittman of Bakersfield; three sons, Charles Jr. of Visalia, Troy Franklin of Fresno and Jerry Franklin of Bakersfield; two sisters, Marie Martin of Hanford and Lois Child of Senora; three brothers, his twin, Douglas of Lindsay, Rev. Dale Franklin of Strathmore and Bob of Senora; also 25 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; many friends, coworkers and family members. A special thanks to the staff at Beverly Manor in Fresno for their excellent care of our Dad during his illness. Visitation will be Friday, November 4th, from 5-9 p.m., at Greenlawn Southwest Mortuary.
