"Gene" Eugene A. Frost "Gene" 10/4/1922 - 2/6/2006 Gene Frost was born and raised in San Jose. His father, Howard Frost, farmed in Gilroy and his mother, Florence Frost Andree was the dietician at a school in Santa Clara. He was one of seven children with two brothers, George Frost and Kenneth Frost and four sisters, Arlene Lawson, Barbara Nash, Beverly Nankivell and Shirley Smith. He attended Burbank School and San Jose High School. In 1940, at the age of 18, he joined the Army. He served for 27 years fighting in both World War II and Vietnam. He received the Silver Star with Oak Leaf Cluster for his actions at Anzio Beach, Italy during World War II. In Vietnam he was stationed with the 1st Squadron, 4th Calvary and was the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross for Heroism. He met his wife, Agnes Catlin in 1945. They were married a month later in a little Lutheran church in Santa Cruz, CA. They celebrated 60 years of marriage last year with a huge party on the coast. Eugene, Agnes and their three daughters traveled extensively in the military with tours in Mannheim, Germany; Fort Lewis, Washington; Fort Richardson, Alaska; Fort Knox, Kentucky; and then back to Augsburg, Germany. Eugene retired with honors in 1971 as a Commander Sergeant Major. He and Agnes started Frost Trucking and Sales in Bakersfield in 1979. Through their hard work and dedication, they now employ 30 people whom they consider family. Gene, age 83, died peacefully in his sleep on Monday, February 6, at his home. His generous spirit and sense of humor will be deeply missed. Eugene is survived by his wife, Agnes, and three daughters, Pamela Martinez, Shirley Hartman and Wanda Pelkey; five grandchildren and 10 great- grandchildren. On February 25, 2006, at 12 noon, a celebration of his life will be held in San Jose at Darling-Fischer Chapel, 471 E. Santa Clara St., San Jose, CA 95112. On March 4, 2006, at 11:00 a.m., a memorial will be held in Bakersfield at Mission Family Mortuary, 531 California Ave., Bakersfield, CA 93304.
