She accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized with her dad at the church started by Amy Sempil McPherson. She tried to live her life with Christ as her example. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Arvin, Greenfield, which is now Faith Church of the Nazarene. She loved her church and the people in it. Maude was born at home, January 24, 1918, in Clay County, Illinois. She was the oldest of 7 children born to Lewis and Emma Fryburger. They lived in many states, her dad following work to support their family. She finished her sophomore year in high school, then quit to support herself and help her family. She lived with several families, being what you would call today a Nanny. She moved to Arvin in 1942 to work at DiGiorgio Farms. There she met Cecil Church and married. He brought to their marriage three children, which Maude raised as her own. This marriage brought two more children. Mom always had extra children in her home: grandchildren, nieces, nephews and the Melendez children whom she babysat since they were infants. One of her dreams was to earn her high school diploma which she did at 56 years old. She worked for the Bakersfield City Schools as a yard aide for many years. She then was a housekeeper for several families and quit to take care of our dad who was very ill. She made dolls and for several years her dolls were used in the Nutcracker Ballet that is presented each year. Maude was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years; son, Earl; granddaughters, Letia and Chris; her mother and father; her stepfather, Gilbert Reed; brothers, Earl, Bob, John Fryburger and Larry Reed; sister, Jane Bullard. She is survived by her children, son, Tommy and wife, pat; daughters, Marie Koch and husband, Walt, Kathy Williams and Cecile Scott and husband, Delbert; her grandchildren, Steven, Karen, Thomas, Carlos, Kelly, Lorie, Stephanie, Michael, Eric, Aaron and Heather; 35 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Zelma Worrell; brothers, Kenneth Fryburger, George Fryburger and Don Reed. We wish to say thank you so much to all those at the Hallmark, Ken and Rita, Anna, the girls and DeeDee, who Mom thought was part of the family. We cant begin to thank you for all you did. Thank you to Hoffman Hospice, Steve, Laura and Elizabeth and all of you for your love and concern for Mom. Mom was a true Proverbs 31 woman. Graveside services will be held on Friday, October 28, 2005, at 1:00 p.m., at Hillcrest Cemetery. Pastor Larry Sams will conduct the services.
