He passed peacefully in the early morning at home with his family, finally succumbing to the cancer he fought against so bravely and for so long. Bob was born in MT. Home, near Stigler, Oklahoma on June 14, 1932 to William Albert and Lela Mae (Newton) Few. The family came to Wasco in 1949 where Bob attended local schools. He met and married his high school sweetheart. Mary Ann Martin in 1952 and they recently shared their 53rd Wedding Anniversary. Bob was a floor covering contractor for over 40 years, and was well known for his custom work. He also taught floor covering for 2 years at Bakersfield College. Bob was a dedicated family man. And, after raising his two daughters, did not hesitate to take in two of his grandsons, Robert Lee and Matthew Afton, to raise them and Love them as if they were his own. Love is sacrifice, Love is action. And he loved us all, truly and deeply. Bob is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; their two daughters, Pamela Ann and Kimberley Susan; grandchildren, Robert Lee Miller, Matthew Afton Andrews, Loni Ann Wheat, and Harry Lockwood Wheat; and 7 grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Sardis Craig; nephews, Harley Craig and Benny D. Craig; cousin, Betty Cole and her husband, Bill; longtime friends, Lawrence and Andree Hasha; and many, many more beloved cousins, nephews, nieces and friends. Preceding him in death are his parents, William Albert Few and Lela Mae Few; his brother, Rev. William A. Few; his sisters, Lavell Kirby and Dolores Mitchell; his brother-in-law, Benny Craig Sr., and his great-nephew, Benny Derald Craig. Bob committed himself as a volunteer for the Kern County Probation Dept. and Youth for Christ. He counted it a great joy to work with the children at Juvenile Hall and to take the Gospel and the love of Christ to them, teaching them and counseling them. He was also involved with Ministry at the Bakersfield Rescue Mission, dedicated to the Word and to sharing it with the men and women coming to services there for many, many years. Bob was the kind of man that when he saw you out and about, and asked, How are you?, he really wanted to know. He cared about people, and it showed. Those who knew him, loved him and respected him, and he will be greatly missed by all. Peters Funeral Home-Wasco Legacy.com Published in the Bakersfield Californian on 8/16/2005.
