Frank is preceded in death by his parents, infant sister and his brother, Jas Filas. He is survived by his devoted wife, Shirley Filas; daughter and her partner, Shirley Marie and Doc Seligma; daughter and son-in- law, Tolita and Rick Harrison; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Wayne Jones; daughter, Debi Featherston; daughter, Jeannie Klien; daughter and son-in-law, Paulette and Pat Kripple; son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Mayumi Himes; 17 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; older sister, Victoria Lipskis; sister- in-law, Bertha Filas; numerous nieces and nephews as well as many other relatives and friends. Frank passed away at home early in the morning on May 21, 2005. He was born March 22, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois to Felix and Barbara Pedzimas Filas. Frank began a life of adventure at age 19 when he headed to San Francisco and joined the Sailors Union of the Pacific, becoming a merchant marine on the Lena Luckenback on September 13, 1941. Frank joined the United States Coast Guard to serve our country during World War II, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. Frank received an Honorable Discharge in 1945 and returned to his life as a Merchant Marine. Frank was also a member of the American Legion Post 26. At the age of 60, he met the love of his life, Shirley Ann Himes. On December 8, 1982 he married for the first and only time. Frank accepted her six grown children with open arms and lovingly helped raise her youngest daughter, Shirley Marie. The family wishes to express appreciation to his faithful friend, Betty Martin, his daughter and her partner, Shirley Marie and Doc Seligman, to the First Floor Staff at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital and Optimal Hospice for the kind care they gave to our Husband, Father and Grandfather throughout his illness. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Youth Ministry Program of the Edison First Baptist Church at 661-366-3753.
