Chaplain Chuck Simonson will officiate. Mrs. Chanley was born June 25, 1922 in Tulsa, Oklahoma and had been a resident of Kern County for 70 years. She was a Title Clerk with the Kern County Assessor's Office for 17 years. She was a member of the Kern County Retirees' Association, the Bakersfield Sundowners, and the Golden Girls - Kern County High School's Alumni Group. Thelma loved to work with leather making special items for those she loved. She always looked forward to spending Wednesdays with her family and loved playing cards when she went camping with the Sundowners. She was preceded in death by her husband of 27 years, Arthur Glenn Chanley, sister, Geneva Fitzgerald, and brothers, Claud and Leonard Ford. Survivors include her daughter, Alice Chanley of Bakersfield; son and daughter-in-law, Claud and Jan Chanley of Salinas; grandchildren, Heather Imwalle and her husband, Jeff of Salinas, Sarah Tuttle and her husband, Jed of Camp Pendleton, Justine Chanley of Phoenix, AZ and Ryan Chanley of Salinas; three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in her memory, to the charity of your choice. Visitation will begin Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Mortuary.
