Ernest Formhals
Oct. 20, 1942 – May 23, 2005 

Ernest Formhals was born Oct. 20, 1942, in Louisville, Ky., to Ernest Chick 
and Margaret Ann Mooch Formhals. 

Ernie especially enjoyed telling jokes, playing the guitar and singing, 
reading, cooking, golfing, fishing, traveling, and spending time with his 
family and friends. 

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Wanda Faye Routon Formhals; his five 
children, Daniel Eugene Formhals, Cheryl Denise Sis Pumphrey, Gary Patrick 
Formhals, Melanie Majel Formhals and Kristi Laurelle Wilson; his seven 
grandchildren, Natasha Marie Tavarez, Nicole Denise Pumphrey, Ashlee Rae 
Formhals, Chandler Michelle Formhals, Davin James Wilson, Quinton Jacob Wilson 
and Mohini Majel Formhals; one great-grandchild, Madison Denise Tavarez; and 
two surrogate children, Lulu and Yoda. He is also survived by sisters, Iris 
June Hoagland and Michelle Yates; nieces and nephews, Margaret Lynn Brown, 
Mary Beth Missy Hoagland, Vicki Jackson, Bobbi Edwards, Angie Haun, Tammie 
Harding, Andrea Arnold and Perry Hoagland. 

Ernie was preceded in death by his brother, Walter Ray Slug Formhals and 
sister, Betty Leigh McDonald. 

A celebration of life memorial was held for Ernie on June 2 at 1 p.m. at 
Hillcrest Memorial Park in Bakersfield.
