Ever the one for a dramatic entrance, Kristi arrived feet first and kicking on September 16, 1947, in San Bernardino. By the time she graduated from San Diego State University in 1969, she found her love of theatre and music, and with the birth of her daughter, Nina chose the role of a lifetime motherhood. Five years later, daughter, JoAnna would join the family cast. A 1976 scene change brought Kristi to Bakersfield where she took active roles at Wesley United Methodist Church, BCLO and as a member of the Keynotes singing group. Kristi also played supporting roles at Stretch & Sew, P.T.A., and other community organizations. Her love of singing prompted her to organize the Spotlight Singers, a group that performed throughout Bakersfield. Kristi started a new act in her life when she began teaching theatre at Highland High School and later at South High, finally retiring after 17 years. Mike Hurry joined Kristi's production in 1989 when they married. Theirs has been a wonderful romantic comedy. The latest addition to the cast is her grandson, Parker Ray who brought light and life to her final days. Kristi moves on to another stage joining her parents, Betty and Ray Fortier and brother, Andrew. She leaves behind husband, Mike; daughters, Nina Weagant and JoAnna Mina; grandson, Parker; sisters, Ellen Jackson and Kate Fortier; brothers, Mathew and Gig Fortier and their families and stepmother, Gloria Fortier. Kristis family will celebrate her life at 3 p.m., Monday, April 4th, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1314 Oswell Street. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the South High School Scholarship Foundation in the name of Kristi Hurry. Additional Comments: Volunteer submission - No relation to deceased.
