She attended school in Placerville until the thirties when she went to the University of California, Berkeley. Agnes grandmother funded the money for her college education, where she was one of a handful of women in her graduating class. While attending college she met her husband, Frank J. Pensar, a chemical engineering student. During the depression years, Agnes drove a dynamite truck and taught school in Smithflat, Placerville. That school was located near the 3 Mile House, a pony express station her grandmother operated during the late 19th century. In the late thirties, as a young bride she moved to Sonoma Valley, where she lived until she moved to Bakersfield two years ago. Agnes was artistically gifted. She was a lace maker, a knitter, and a hand weaver. She spoke five languages. She had an inordinate amount of horticultural knowledge; planting and organizing her garden which she lovingly shared with her family and friends. Agnes life could be defined by one word: Family. Her legacy is two daughters and one son, Patricia Wilson and husband, Gary of Shafter; Anne Hodges and husband, Chris of San Luis Obispo; Bill Pensar and wife, Peg of Lemon Cove; four granddaughters and one grandson: Aarin Wilson, Michele McManus, Jill Tallec, Jennifer Hodges and Stephen Hodges; seven great-grandchildren, Taylor, Mallory and Wilson Hansard, Michael and Joseph McManus, Bryan and Scott Tallec. Agnes will be missed. Her blankets, sweaters, and scarves made with love will help us hold her tight to us. Our gardens will bloom with her memory. We will be celebrating her life at a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, June 28, 2005, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Leos Church in Sonoma, 601 West Agua Caliente Rd. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to The Green Hotel, P.O. Box 1088, Shafter, CA 93263. Peters Funeral Home-Shafter Legacy.com Published in the Bakersfield Californian on 6/23/2005.
