John (Johnny) Francis 
1913 - 2005 

John Joseph Francis, age 91 years, passed away in his home Sunday, July 3, 
2005. A graveside service will be held Monday, July 11, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at 
South Kern Cemetery District, in Arvin. Father Dan Coyle of Sacred Heart 
Catholic Church will officiate the service and interment will follow. In 1936 
John married Ruby Hunt. They operated Johnnys Market Gas Station and Rubys 
Beauty Shop next to Vineland School for forty years. John loved baseball and 
played on local teams in his younger days. Watching his sons and nephews play 
sports through their school years was a great joy for him. After retirement 
John and Ruby made several trips through the United States. As he grew older 
with failing health, morning coffee with neighbors and story telling of how 
Weedpatch had changed since he came here in 1918 from Porterville, was an 
important part of his week. Survivors include his loving wife, Ruby; sons and 
wives, Ron and Jeanette, Gary and Nancy, and Dan Francis, 5 grandchildren; 
Troy Francis, Rene Serpa, Kristy Buescher, Kelly Kuhns, John Francis; and four 
great-grandchildren; brother and wife, Leonard and Mary Francis; sister-in-
law, Vesta Ellis, and many nieces and nephews; especially Linda Hunt, Judi 
Wicker, Corinne Lumbert and friends, W.C. and Gwen Stampes and Chris Vandborg.
