Gardiner Services: Mon., Jan 9, 2:00 p.m. Mel L. Gardiner died Tuesday morning, January 3, 2006, at his home. Born July 21, 1933, he was 72 years old. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 28 years, Donna Gardiner; his mother-in-law, Louise Broussard; his daughters, Debbie Bush, Terri Cooper, Jereme Ferrill; and his son, Mel L. Gardiner, Jr. He is also survived by his two sons-in-law, Tim Bush and Mike Ferrill; sister, Barbara Elaine Lane; grandchildren, Cindy Bush, Kristin Rodriguez, her husband Robert, Brooke Thompson, Rachael Gardiner, Chris and Matt Ferrill; great grandchildren, Paige and Alexa Rodriguez. Mel has many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mels parents, Le Roy and Agnes Gardiner, preceded Mel in death. Mel was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and partner. He also leaves behind his loving cats and dogs that will miss him very much. Mel worked for the law firm of Borton, Petrini and Conron for 25 years as an investigator, retiring in 1995. Mel, along with his three partners, formed an alternative energy company, Tehachapi Mojave Wind Park, Inc. In 1983 and went online in 1985. Mel and his partners also had several other entities. Mels big dreams were very clear, and he never gave up. Mels life was a fulfillment of his dreams. He was a very strong person, perhaps a pillar of steel. Mel was given an honorary lifetime badge as a Sheriff and Coroner in San Luis Obispo County. Mel was on the Board of Directors for the Ronald McDonald House, and a member of The Kern Wind Energy Association. He is also a benefactor of the Laurelglen Bible Church, Garden Grove Community Church, Bakersfield SPCA, Family to Family, plus funding numerous other charities. He was also recognized as a 2005 Honoree by the Presidential Roundtable. After Mels heart surgery at UCLA in 1998, his life was given back to him so he could serve the Lord. Mel was a regular attendee al Laurelglen Bible Church. He also volunteered on several church projects. Mel knew the power of prayer as God had revealed His power through His son Jesus Christ several times. Mel renewed his acceptance of the Lord on August 15, 2003. With the Holy Spirit in his heart, Mel was on his way. One of his greatest joys was his church family at Laurelglen. When Mel is laid to rest, his journey will have been completed, and his purpose completed during his generation. A memorial celebration service will be held on Monday, January 9th, at 2:00 p.m., at Laurelglen Bible Church, 2801 Ashe Road. In lieu of flowers, Mels request is that you make donations to Laurelglen Bible Church or the Bakersfield SPCA. Special appreciation is extended to Dr. Luis Cousin and his staff and to Dr. Tommy Lee and his staff. May God bless you both. No visitation is planned.
