Fred Arnold Gassaway 
April 13, 1919 - February 12, 2006 
Services: Sat., Feb. 18, 10:30 a.m. 

Fred A. Gassaway went to be with the Lord February 12, 2006. Fred is survived 
by his wife of 62 years, Madge; son, Kenneth of Bakersfield; daughter, Dianne 
Elayer and her husband, David of Susanville, California; grandson, Todd Elayer 
and his wife, Michelle of Folsom, California; granddaughter, Beth Elayer and 
great-granddaughter, Hailey Elayer of Las Vegas, Nevada. He was preceded in 
death by his parents, A.C. and Elizabeth Gassaway and two brothers, Clyde and 
Lawrence. Fred was born April 13, 1919, in Van Buren, Missouri to A.C. and 
Elizabeth Gassaway. While serving in the U.S. Navy as Chief Pharmacist Mate 
during World War II, Fred met the girl who would become his wife in Sydney, 
Australia. Their son, Kenneth was born while Fred served in the Pacific. After 
World War II Fred moved to California where he farmed in Tehachapi. A 
daughter, Dianne, was born to them there. Fred retired from Oildale Mutual 
Water Company in 1984 after 27 years of service as superintendent. Fred loved 
fishing, growing tomatoes, and camping with his family. He was a longtime 
member of Shalimar Baptist Church. A funeral service is scheduled for 
Saturday, February 18, 2006, at 10:30 a.m., at Greenlawn Mortuary, 3700 River 
Blvd.
