Gatschet, 78 of Bakersfield, died January 8, 2006. William Bill, born December 11, 1927 in California, Missouri, was the son of Albert A. Gatschet & Ida Stella Hahn. He served in various branches of the U.S. military from 1945 until retiring from the U.S. Air Force in 1973 as a Lt. Colonel. Bill was an accomplished fighter pilot, who served 2 tours of duty in Viet Nam. An avid aviator, Bill built and flew his own aircraft and was an instrument flight instructor. He worked with the FAA as a consultant, and belonged to many organized flying associations. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and many other outdoor sports. He was a resident of Bakersfield for the past 22 years, working as a financial broker. Bill enjoyed traveling with his family and friends, and remained in contact with countless longtime friends worldwide. Among other family, Bill is survived by his wife Beth Gatschet; daughters Janis Schlossberg & husband Tom of Bluffton, SC, Eileen Parker & husband Doug, Cheryl Supple & husband Woody all of Albuquerque, NM, son Brian Gatschet & wife Susan of Bakersfield; grandchildren Truett, Keenan, Dailey & Chandley Jackson, Ian & Molly Supple and Justin Gatschet; stepchildren Renee McDonald & Craig LaDassor. Services will be held 10:00am Saturday January 14 at Greenlawn Southwest, 2739 Panama Lane 93313. Donations may be made to the Veterans of Kern County Inc. 1120 Golden State Hwy, Bakersfield, CA 93301. Bill Gatschet was an original.
