Graveside services will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery on Thursday, February 16th, at 11:00 a.m., with his grandson, Rev. Robert Longbottom officiating. Bob, a native of Bakersfield, was born on December 14, 1923, the eighth of eleven children to John Conley and Zoa Claudine Gillespie. After attending local schools, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II earning various Medals of Honor and being discharged as a Sergeant. He married Barbara Lime in 1947 and they had three daughters Kendal, Marilynne, and Janice. Some of the old-timers may remember Bob from working at Peacock Dairy, others from his Chevron Station on South Chester Ave. He spent his final working days as a route salesman at Carnation. He married Iva Gean Del Re in 1984 and they had 18 happy years before her death in 2002. Bob is survived by his brother, Tom Gillespie; daughters, Kendal and her husband, Roger Miller, Marilynne McDuffey, and Janice Pasquini; grandchildren, Matthew, Robert, Nancy, Jeannie, Katie, Michael, Jeffrey, and Anthony; ten great- grandchildren; and his best buddy, his dog, Sunday. Bob is also survived by his deceased wife's four sons and their families, which includes his special daughter-in-law, Norma DelRe, who did so very much for him in the last few years. He affectionately called her his 4th daughter. The family requests that you make any donations to your favorite charity.
