Mariann was the seventh of the nine children born to Frank and Anna Geortz of Wasco, California. She was raised in Wasco and graduated from Wasco High School. After high school, she worked for Bank of America in Taft, California and then was employed by Richfield Oil Company. It was during this time that she met Everett Skelton and they were married in 1952. Everett and Mariann made their home in Bakersfield. Their son Steven was born in 1956. A few years later she went to work for Occidental Petroleum Corp., where she worked until her retirement in the 1980s. Mariann was preceded in death by her husband, Everett, parents, Frank and Anna Goertz, brothers, Elmer and Palmer Goertz, and sisters, Maybelle Alexander and Dorothy Jesperson. She is survived by her son, Steven and his wife, Kathy; grandson, Andrew; sisters, Evelyn Hartnett, Maxine Klassen, Lavina Gularte, with husband, Loyd, and Gwynlee Astle, with husband John, and numerous nephews and nieces. Mariann was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother whose generosity, kindness, and sense of humor were cherished by all who knew her.
