Miguel (Mike) Gonzalez was born February 6, 1917 in Villa Ocampo, Guanajuato, Mexico and he passed away December 5, 2005 in Bakersfield, California with his family by his side. His parents came to the United States and lived in the Grand Canyon until Miguel was in the sixth grade. The family returned to Mexico where Miguel met and married the love of his life, Juanita. They had four children before Miguel returned to the United States with the "Bracero Program." He harvested crops in California, Montana and other western states. He also served as a cook and interpreter between the farmers and the field workers. Miguel returned to Mexico then brought his small family to California where they settled in Bakersfield. Here, they had eleven more children. Miguel worked for the Santa Fe Railroad until he was forced to quit because of a brain tumor. He later worked for Joe Brown and Don Kitchen Construction companies until he retired. He was a member of the local Union 220 and the Comite Beneficicio. Miguel loved his Cursillo. He loved his God, his wife and his family. Miguel is preceded in death by his beautiful wife of 55 years, Juanita; daughter, Lidia Rodriguez; son, John Gonzalez; parents, Claro and Epifania Gonzalez; brothers, Antonio, Salvador, Claro, David, Joe and sister, Silveria. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Luz and Martha, Edward and Evelyn, Antonio and Gloria, Rodolfo (Cooks) and Alice, Pablo (Gabby), Epifania and Berto Perez, Maria and Sal Guerra, Socorro Garcia, Pete and Lupe, Tom Rodriguez, Fred and Charmaine, Mike and Stephanie, Henry and Lori, Lupe and Kenneth Becas; 55 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; brother, Victor; sisters, Tranquelina Fiscal and Ricarda Juarez. We would like to thank all of Dad's caregivers, Rosario, Maria and Socorro. We would also like to thank Optimal Hospice for their care, patience and understanding during this time. These last months with Dad have been beautiful. It has allowed us, his children, to be part of this stage of his life. It has given us time to accept the inevitable not with fear but with joy as we were able to talk to him, care for him and sing songs to him - religious songs, Spanish songs and silly songs. He would look at the children and want to sing along. He loved music and he especially loved dancing with Mom. We love you. He was loved by all that knew him and he will be deeply missed.
