At the age of 18, he moved to Taft to attend junior college where he played baseball and met his life long love, Mildred Ahmann whom he married in 1951. Lloyd went to work for Standard Oil Company in 1951 and he served in the U.S. Army from 1952 1954. When he returned home he continued working for Standard Oil. Lloyd pursued his education by returning to Taft Junior College under the G.I. bill and earned his Associate of Arts degree. Lloyd advanced to area foreman for Standard Oil prior to his retirement after 26 years of service. He continued his 40 year oilfield career by working for independent companies. His final employment was with Bob Morton Construction, ending in 1990 because of heart problems. Lloyd loved construction and carpentry, building garages, patios and handcrafting beautiful items for his home. He enjoyed hunting in his earlier years and became an avid and expert deep sea fisherman, winning several tournaments. He gardened and canned fruits and vegetables and raised animals, which he loved, especially his poodles. Lloyd is survived by Mildred, his wife of 54 years; his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Mona Grant of Bakersfield; his daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and H.J. Desy of San Diego; his daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Jesse Esparza of Bakersfield; his grandchildren, Jeffrey, Crystal (May), David Grant, Rob and Sarah Desy, Natalie and Anthony Esparza. In accordance with Lloyds wishes, private graveside services will be held. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
