From her childhood in a small village in Wales, to her service with the Path Finders in the Royal Air Force during World War II, to marrying an American Airman and crossing the Atlantic with her first child as a war bride to live in Cambridge, Massachusetts. And later following Route 66 to cross the breadth of this country with her husband and two small children in the back seat of a 1951 Studebaker, to arrive here in Bakersfield, she saw and experienced much of this world. Devoted daughter to a blind father, WAAF in service to her country of birth, loving wife and mother, dedicated nurse, humane volunteer and finally political activist, in the end this immigrant from a distant land loved and cherished the ideals of her adopted country more than many who were born here. Edith was a member of the Daughters of the British Empire, Womens Auxiliary and Veterans of Foreign Wars. She will be deeply missed by her family and many friends. Edith is survived by her husband William Mutch of Bakersfield; daughter Janet Nason and husband Elwin; grandson Keith Nason all of Massachusetts and sister Joyce Saunders of England. She was preceded in death by her brother Frank Gregory. Services will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Chapel, 3700 River Blvd., Tuesday, December 20, at 1:30 p. m. with private interment. Visitation begins Monday, 3:00 - 9:00 p.m. Greenlawn Mortuary Funeral Directors Legacy.com Published in the Bakersfield Californian on 12/18/2005.
